The Nuez Lounge BIO® has recently been awarded a Red Dot prize for Product Design after convincing the 50-juror international panel of its excellence thanks to its sustainability and precise design, to mix the needs of a comfortable lounge chair to have the lowest environmental impact. Designed by Patricia Urquiola, is manufactured with 100% natural origin thermopolymer and is biodegradable and compostable.
Winning the Red Dot Award for Product Design is another sustainability milestone for the Nuez Lounge BIO®. Its outer shell is 100% recyclable, biodegradable, and compostable. It is available in a range of four elegant colors: sand, basalt gray, terracotta brown, and black, more evolved than the traditional gray color that until now characterized recyclable plastics.
The interior is upholstered with the new Circular ONE®, fabric made from plastics from PET bottles and textile waste. The foam it uses is also 100% recycled and recyclable. The assembly does not use any glue, so it can be easily disassembled and repaired or reupholstered to extend its life. The central ash base gives it extra naturalness and is 100% FSC®, certified. With it, a new and comfortable path towards sustainability opens.
The Red Dot Jury comprises 50 international experts who test, discuss and appraise each entry individually. It has roots dating back as far as 1955 and determines the best products created each year. In 2021, designers and manufacturers from 60 countries submitted more than 6,300 objects to the competition.
The award’s evaluation process is based on various criteria and provides an orientation framework, complemented by each juror according to their expertise. The judging criteria include topics such as: degree of innovation, functionality, ergonomics, symbolic and emotional content, and ecological compatibility.
